AS 9100: 2016 (or Rev D) is now formally released. Of course, much of the additional information and requirements for the AS 9100 Rev D have been in the public domain for a while and we at WEAF have delivered very successful training courses in this regard throughout 2016. The standard is based on the ISO 9001: 2015 with an additional focus on matters such as – front end commercial and contract risk, leaning into the high level demonstration of business continuity planning, technical competence and effective process controls; the latter with particular reference knowing your materials origination and minimising the introduction of counterfeit part.
AS 9100 Rev D additionally emphases the requirements specified within the Standard are complementary (not alternative) to customer contract and regulatory requirements – with an interesting implementation requirement that the Quality Management System must be in context with the products and services provided. Therefore, in many way the Standard is stating the obvious, i.e. asking Senior Management to take the initiative and develop the Quality Management System to accurately reflect the business and contract obligations – it will be the Certification Bodies that must then decide on effectiveness of the Quality Management System with reference to the “defined” context…..
Enough of this! WEAF is currently delivering a series of one day AS 9100: Rev D awareness training courses to its members – the course include all aspects of the new requirements, coupled with the tools and techniques to ensure effective implementation and compliance. The WEAF training courses are designed and delivered to stimulate debate and ensure WEAF members are ahead of the game!
