Boeing Sensor Requirements
Boeing currently has a need for long range, passive Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) with interfaces for specified sensors, or, with embedded sensors. Wireless sensing of temperature, pressure, acceleration, etc.
has multiple applications in ground and aerospace platforms (wireless in terms of communication and power). Many sensing applications are located in remote or difficult to access regions. In these instances, self contained power sources (batteries) are not desirable as they become a life limiting item which requires access at a specified frequency.
Furthermore, these remote installations may be a long distance from the nearest access point from which an RFID interrogator can be placed, commonly exceeding the normal read/write interrogation distances of passive devices.
The key requirements for this RFID device are:
Memory Capacity: 128Kbytes (written to by the interrogator or by the
sensor)
Interrogation Range: 10 meters
Sensor: Pressure, temperature, humidity, electrical continuity, acceleration
Compliance: Electronic Product Code (EPC Global Class 1, Gen 2)
