Agratas Gigafactory Project Update

Published on: 27th October 2025

WEAF recently met with the Agratas team for an update on the progress of the UK’s first large-scale battery manufacturing facility, currently under construction in Somerset.

Project Timeline
The first phase of production is now expected to begin in late 2027, with full site completion in the early 2030s. Steelwork is already two-thirds complete, with substantial completion targeted by end of 2025 and cladding due to start in early 2026.

Recruitment & Skills Development

Agratas plans to recruit 1,600 operational staff for the highly automated facility, beginning mid-2026 and ramping up through early 2027. Working with UCS College Group, the company will deliver new training programmes, short courses, and apprenticeships — training around 300 apprentices between 2027 and 2031.

Supply Chain Opportunities

Agratas and Sir Robert McAlpine SRM are committed to a local-first approach, prioritising South West suppliers wherever possible. While construction contracts (managed via SRM’s supplier portal) focus on local services such as drainage, concrete, mechanical, electrical & plumbing (MEP), and general materials, the highly specialised fit-out equipment will be sourced globally by Agratas.

WEAF Collaboration

WEAF Collaboration is proud to support Agratas and SRM by showcasing our Network Portal. This effort will enable stronger connections with local suppliers’ capabilities and talent across the region, accelerating collaboration and regional impact.
