Agratas Battery Manufacturing Facility Update

Agratas’ landmark project in Somerset, to build the UK’s biggest battery facility, reached a significant development milestone on 25th June with the erection of steel for the first manufacturing building.

Agratas has already carried out extensive work at its 308-acre site, having levelled over 40% of the land and installed around 17,000 foundation piles in the ground.

The week of 23rd June, six 100 tonne cranes and the first steel deliveries arrived on site, and on 25th June the first steel frames were assembled.

Construction of Building One will continue in phases, to be completed in 2027, and battery cell production is planned to start in late 2027 to supply Agratasanchor customer JLR.

100% of steel for Building One will be sourced from British suppliers, including from British Steel, Agratas states its proud to support domestic production.

There will be more than 2,200 people working on site during peak construction activities, from spring 2026 to spring 2027, to develop what will be one of the biggest buildings in the country.

Agratas’ supply chain spending during construction will also support thousands of indirect jobs in the UK, across a range of sectors, and drive supplier revenue generation.

Additional manufacturing buildings will be constructed at the site in subsequent years, and the company is ambitious about attracting new potential customers in different sectors, such as energy storage.

Agratas’ ambitious project, which will create significant economic value, will help the UK’s transition to Net Zero and support a growing industrial cluster in the South West.
