Empowering Women in the Workplace – Developing Your Career

Published on: 4th March 2026

Yesterday (3rd March), we hosted the latest Empowering Women in the Workplace session, centred on the theme “Developing Your Career.” The topic was shaped directly by feedback from our network, with members expressing strong interest in practical support around:

  • Personal branding
  • Constructing compelling job applications
  • Enhancing LinkedIn profiles to increase visibility and help reduce bias

We were delighted to welcome Alice Lanigan, Talent Attraction Manager at Leonardo (Engineering UK), who provided valuable insight into how individuals can optimise their professional presence in an increasingly competitive market. Alice addressed common recruitment myths and shared practical guidance on what leading UK employers look for when identifying high-potential candidates, offering clarity on how to stand out for the right reasons.

Sessions like this form part of WEAF/ADS South West’s commitment to strengthening the region’s talent pipeline and supporting inclusive career progression across our aerospace, defence, security and space community.

It was fantastic to see a mix of returning attendees and new faces, reinforcing the value of peer-to-peer engagement and shared learning.

Our sincere thanks to Exeter College for hosting and for their continued support of the network.

We look forward to building on this momentum at our next session, planned for July.
