A Chief Service Engineer from Rolls-Royce has scooped a West of England Aerospace Forum (WEAF) Ambassador Award sponsored by the Bristol office of accountancy, investment management and tax group, Smith & Williamson.
Jon Morley was awarded the Smith & Williamson-sponsored Call of Duty Award for his exceptional contribution to customer service.
This award, which forms part of the Aerospace Ambassadors Awards launched by WEAF for the first time in 2017, recognises individuals who have gone over and beyond what is expected of them. Jon impressed the judges by his innovative approach to a difficult technical problem which saw him establish a team to help deliver an alternative solution within a challenging time frame.
Mike Lea, senior partner and head of the Aerospace and Defence sector team at Smith & Williamson’s Bristol office, said: “I was honoured to present the Call of Duty Award to Jon Morley whose innovative thinking, customer focus and leadership skills brought about a practical solution to a challenging problem and achieved a positive outcome for the business as well as the customer. There are so many people working in industry who have shown selfless dedication in the course of their work and we are proud to play a part in recognising a few of these unsung heroes. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jon again on his well-deserved win.”
Simon Young, Chief Executive of WEAF, the leading membership trade organisation for aerospace and defence companies in the South West, said: “The South West’s aerospace sector contains some of the brightest and most talented individuals in engineering today.  These awards are designed to celebrate the sector’s unsung heroes and shine a spotlight on their outstanding achievements.”
The WEAF Aerospace Ambassador Awards were presented at a celebration dinner held at Bristol Museum on the 28th June.
The South West has one of the largest concentrations of aerospace and defence capabilities in Europe, and is the biggest aerospace cluster in the UK worth more than £7 billion. Bristol companies represent over one third of the total WEAF membership, and includes some of the leading names in aerospace including Airbus, Rolls-Royce and GKN as well as many SMEs.
Smith & Williamson has a dedicated Aerospace and Defence team working closely with businesses of all sizes at the heart of the sector and across the supply chain.
